WASHINGTON’S LOTTERY CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY BY NAMING WINNER OF "DESIGN A
Winner announcement culminates six–month program celebrating the players, games, retailers and contributions that have made Washington's Lottery great for 30 years
In final celebration of its 30th Anniversary, Washington's Lottery today announced the winner of the "Design a
Ticket" contest. This interactive contest, which started in August, was a creative outlet for fans to participate in Washington's Lottery's 30th Anniversary and compete to have their ticket design printed as a Washington's Lottery
game. The winning ticket, titled "Life on Mars," was designed by Steve Jensen, of Monroe, WA.
Steve's ticket was chosen by popular vote and will be printed on a $2 Washington's Lottery
game in early 2013. The Design a
Ticket contest received 151 entries, more than 12,722 online votes, and 2,665 of those votes were for Steve's Life on Mars ticket.
"I was inspired by NASA's landing of the Curiosity Rover on Mars," explained Steve. "I told some of my friends who voted for my ticket that if I won, I'd buy them my
ticket when it gets printed next year. Looks like I'm on the hook now!"
The Design a
Ticket contest was part of Washington's Lottery's 30th Anniversary celebration that kicked off in June with an Anniversary
ticket. That ticket sold out in 10 weeks – twice as quickly as similar tickets typically sell out – and winners from across the state claimed the five top $50,000 prizes.
"The past six months have been a very exciting time for Washington's Lottery," explained Bill Hanson, Director of Washington's Lottery. "We designed this anniversary program, from the Design a
Ticket contest to the Anniversary
ticket, to thank and celebrate our players, retailers, and beneficiaries that have helped make Washington's Lottery successful for three decades. We're looking forward to the next 30 years!"
Since its inception, Washington's Lottery has awarded more than $6 billion in prizes, given more than $3 billion back to the state, and helped hundreds of thousands of people have fun and imagine bigger.
