Statement Regarding Washington's Lottery Veterans Raffle Audit Results

Thursday, January 24, 2013: Washington's Lottery held the Veterans Raffle draw on January 02, 2013. That evening, for a brief period of time, incorrect winning Raffle numbers were released to the corporate website and 1-800 line. While the numbers that were published on the corporate website were incorrect, the numbers generated by Washington Lottery's gaming system were always the correct numbers. As soon as Washington’s Lottery recognized the problem with its internal raffle system, the incorrect numbers were removed from the corporate website. Washington’s Lottery identified an application error handling raffle ticket sales across two calendar years (2012-2013) as the root cause of the issue, swiftly resolved the issue, and published the correct winning numbers on January 03, 2013. Out of an abundance of caution, Washington’s Lottery completed an internal investigation into the incident and made the decision to have an independent, third-party analysis audit performed. Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) conducted the audit and confirmed Washington Lottery's findings: the integrity of Washington Lottery's gaming system remained intact and was never compromised. Additionally, this incident and the issue with the internal raffle system was isolated to raffle-type draws only and doesn't exist with other Washington's Lottery games. GLI provided Washington's Lottery with suggestions for how to better improve its internal raffle system and Washington's Lottery has complied. Washington’s Lottery apologizes for the confusion and inconvenience this problem caused. Click here to read the full report.
