RENTON WOMAN WALKS INTO SAFEWAY FOR A COKE, LEAVES WITH WINNING POWERBALL® TICKET

Renton resident Karen Guilbeault is $50,000 richer after she stopped by Safeway (9620 28th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126) for a soft drink during her bowling tournament at Roxbury Lanes.

“The line to check out at Safeway was so long and the Powerball Jackpot was so high that I figured I’d purchase a ticket while my husband and I were waiting,” said Guilbeault.

The winner told Washington’s Lottery officials she didn’t check the ticket until the following Saturday when she was at work. “I was looking for a stick of gum in my purse when I found the ticket I purchased at the bottom of my bag,” said Guilbeault. “I saw all my numbers matched except for the fourth one, so I thought I had won maybe $1,000, but not $50,000!”

Guilbeault had a small celebration with her brother and his wife, who recently returned from deployment. She hasn’t decided how she plans to spend her prize money, but knows she’ll be sharing the jackpot with her family and siblings.
