LAKE STEVENS MAN PLANS TO DONATE A PORTION OF $1 MILLION LOTTERY WIN TO CHARITY

A man from Lake Stevens was watching TV while checking the July 30 Powerball drawing results when he found out he won $1 million. The man purchased his winning ticket from Haggen (8915 Market Place, Lake Stevens, WA 98258).

“When I found out I was a winner, I was in disbelief,” said the man. “I checked the ticket a few more times, then ran into the bedroom to wake up my wife because she was already asleep. She read the winning numbers and hopped right out of bed!”

The winner told Washington’s Lottery officials there are a number of things he plans to do with his prize money, but the most important to him is donating some money to charity.

“If an individual has the opportunity to do something good, they should,” said the winner. “It’s something I want to do and I feel great about it!”

Since the winner’s sister passed away from multiple sclerosis, the man plans to donate money to an organization that benefits people with the same disease, as well as a few other notable nonprofits. After, the winner plans to purchase a new pickup truck and take his wife on a trip to Colorado. Then, he plans to visit Hawaii so he can cross “visiting all 50 states” off his bucket list.

Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
