The Lottery's headquarters in Olympia is now open to the public. We are strictly observing social distancing guidelines and requirements for masks or cloth face coverings for all employees and members of the public. Please carefully review our posted health screening questions found below before entering the building. For the safety of yourself and others, we ask that you not visit the Lottery if you are unable or unwilling to comply with these requirements.

Processing claims by U.S. mail is still a safe and efficient option. We encourage winners to continue using the mail to claim prizes whenever possible.

Other Lottery offices remain closed at this time. Please check back for updates.

Health Screening Questions

1)  Since your last day of work, or last visit here, have you had any of these symptoms (that is not attributable to another condition)?

  • Cough.
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
  • Fever.
  • Chills.
  • Repeated shaking with chills.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Headache.
  • Sore throat.
  • New loss of taste or smell.

2)  Within the last 14 days, have you had close contact, without the use of appropriate PPE, with someone who is currently sick with suspected or confirmed COVID-19? (Note: Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for more than 15 consecutive minutes).

If the answer is YES to any of these questions, you will not be able to enter the facility. If you have concerns, you may want to contact your health care provider.

The health, safety and wellbeing of every lottery employee and player are of paramount concern to all of us here at Washington’s Lottery – more important than any single jackpot, prize or drawing.

With that focus guiding our decisions, Washington’s Lottery has temporarily closed our regional offices (customer service centers) in Everett, Federal Way, Spokane, Vancouver and Yakima; all airport and mall kiosks. These closures are in response to the current COVID-19 public health crisis, to enable social distancing, and in support of Washington’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” directive.

Though our offices are closed, lottery game play continues in a responsible manner. Both Washington-based and multi-state jackpot draw games remain on their standard schedules, and Scratch games also are available for purchase. Tickets may be purchased from authorized retail locations and vending machines. Washington’s Lottery encourages players to purchase tickets only as part of necessary shopping trips and to consolidate shopping trips as much as possible.

We also want to be sure our winners can continue to claim their prizes safely. Winners of amounts less than $600 may redeem at authorized lottery retail locations (again, recommended only as part of necessary shopping trips). For prizes from $601 to $100,000, Washington’s Lottery recommends utilizing our mail-in prize claim system. Information on how to do so is available here. Please be sure to sign all tickets before placing them in the mail. Winners with tickets for $100,000 or more should call Lottery Headquarters to schedule an appointment to make a safe and secure in-person claim.

Why are you closing your offices?

Washington’s Lottery has instituted safety and social distancing guidelines in our offices to maintain the health and safety of the public and our employees. To do that effectively, we have temporarily closed our airport and mall kiosks, all regional offices (Everett, Federal Way, Spokane, Vancouver and Yakima) and the Lottery Headquarters in Olympia.

Does that mean that Washington’s Lottery is shutting down?

No. Other than the temporary closure of offices and kiosks, Washington’s Lottery is fully operational. Tickets for all games are being sold and drawings are still occurring on their normal schedule.

Will all offices be closed?

All regional offices, mall and airport kiosks are closed. The Lottery Headquarters office in Olympia will remain open for calls and mail only, but is closed to the public.

How long will Lottery offices be closed?

Currently, all Washington’s Lottery regional offices, mall and airport kiosks will remain closed until further directives are issued by the Governor.

Will anyone be staffing the offices?

Washington’s Lottery will not have staff on-site at our regional offices, but we will maintain minimum required staff at our Headquarters Office in Olympia to sustain operations, process winning tickets that have been mailed in and provide security.

What services will/won’t be provided to players at the offices?

All regional offices are closed, so there will be no services provided until they reopen. Players can use the Lottery’s mobile app and walottery.com to check tickets and find authorized lottery retailers, many of which are classified as providing essential services, such as grocery and convenience stores. Some retailers have altered their hours of operation, so players will want to check store hours. Please purchase or redeem tickets only as part of necessary shopping trips during the current “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order. Lottery retailers will continue to sell and check tickets, and to redeem winning tickets valued at $600 or less.

Are tickets still being sold?

Yes. Tickets for all lottery games remain available for purchase at authorized retailers that also offer essential services. Some retailers, such as grocery or convenience stores, may have altered their hours of operation, so players will want to check store hours and purchase their tickets only as part of necessary shopping trips during the current “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order.

Are drawings still being held?

Yes. For a list of current jackpots, winning numbers and next drawing dates, players can open the WA Lottery mobile app or visit walottery.com.

Are all games still being played?

Yes. All draw, jackpot and Scratch games are currently being played.

Have there been any change to games or drawing schedules?

At this time, there are no changes to the draw schedule for lottery games.

Is Washington’s Lottery starting any new promotions to boost sales?

Washington’s Lottery will not be starting any new promotions until normal operations have resumed.

Are winners able to collect their winnings immediately with this closure?

Lottery retailers will continue to redeem winning tickets valued at $600 or less and those can be paid immediately, just like always. Winning tickets from $601 to $100,000 can be redeemed via mail. Winners with tickets for $100,000 or more should call Lottery Headquarters to schedule an appointment to make a safe and secure in-person claim. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date (for draw games) or game closure (for Scratch tickets) to collect their winnings, so some winners may choose to sign the back of the ticket and then hold on to their ticket in a safe and secure place until our Regional Offices reopen.

What happens if a player wins an amount that can’t be paid at a retailer?

The Washington’s Lottery headquarters office in Olympia remains open to process mailed in winning tickets. Winners should sign the back of their ticket and follow the instructions printed on the back for where and how to mail it in. Winners also have 180 days from the drawing date (for draw games) or from the date of game closure (for Scratch tickets) to collect their winnings, so some winners may choose to sign the back and then hold on to their tickets in a safe and secure place until our Regional Offices reopen. If a player has a winning ticket for $100,000 or more and the claim period ends before April 10, they should call Lottery Headquarters to schedule an appointment to make a safe and secure in-person claim.

What are the step-by-step instructions for mailing in a winning ticket?

Winners should follow the instructions on the back of all tickets, which includes information on signing your winning ticket and mailing instructions. Tickets can be mailed to: Washington Lottery Headquarters, P.O. Box 43050, Olympia, WA 98504-3050. Tickets must be actually received by the Lottery before the 180-day deadline. Placing the ticket in the mail by the deadline is not sufficient.

Should I mail in my ticket certified mail?

Sending a ticket by certified mail is not required, but it is recommended in order to provide additional security and peace of mind. Winners should ensure that their ticket is signed and completely filled out on the back before mailing.

Should I take a picture of my winning ticket before I mail it in?

Players can take a picture of their winning ticket for their own peace of mind, but an actual physical ticket, not just a picture, is required for prize redemption.

If I mail in my winning ticket, will my winnings be sent to me right away? Or do I have to wait until you reopen?

Washington’s Lottery will continue to process mailed in winning tickets using our standard operating procedure. That is not changing due to this temporary office closure.

Is there a deadline for redeeming a winning ticket?

Yes. Winning tickets must be received by the Lottery within 180 days of the drawing date (for draw games) or game closure (for Scratch tickets).

What if I have a winning ticket that’s not yet 180 days old, but will be 180 days or more by the time you open the mail?

Winning tickets must be received by the Lottery before the 180 day expiration date. Players are responsible for ensuring on-time arrival, and many players choose to use overnight or same-day mail services if the deadline is quickly approaching.

Are you extending the 180-day deadline to redeem?

This change would require filing emergency rules. Since we are offering multiple means of redemption (retailer redemption for prizes up to $600, mail-in redemption for prizes up to $100,000, and by-appointment redemption for larger winnings), we have not extended the 180-day deadline, but could re-evaluate this decision in the future.

Can I still buy tickets at my favorite retailer?

Tickets for all lottery games remain available for purchase at authorized retailers that offer essential services. Some retailers, such as grocery or convenience stores, may have altered their hours of operation, so players will want to check store hours and purchase their tickets only as part of necessary shopping trips during the current “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order.

Are you still restocking tickets at my favorite retailer?

We currently are still shipping tickets to all lottery retailers that are open for business.

Are the Lottery Vending Machines still working and being stocked?

Yes, Lottery Vending Machines that are located at retailers that remain open will continue to be stocked and sell tickets.

How are you ensuring the cleanliness of the Lottery Vending Machines? What is the cleaning procedure?

Individual retailers maintain the cleanliness of Lottery Vending Machines and we have issued guidance asking them to increase their daily cleaning regimen. If Lottery personnel visit a retailer to service or stock one of these machines, they, too, will perform a thorough cleaning.

Will the WA Lottery mobile app continue to work and be updated regularly?

Yes, the app will continue to be supported.

Can players still earn Points for Prizes in the app?

Yes, players will continue to be able to earn and redeem Points for Prizes for non-winning tickets entered into the app and website.

Can players still check winning tickets in the app?

Yes, players can still check tickets using the barcode scanner in the WA Lottery mobile app.
