Store will receive a $42,000 jackpot selling bonus from Washington’s Lottery

Olympia, Wash. (September 25, 2024) – A Puyallup Safeway is closing out the month on a high note after selling the winning ticket for the recent $4.2 million Lotto jackpot. The ticket, sold on September 14 at the store located at 5616 176th Street E, brought more than just a significant win for one player – it also earned the store a $42,000 retailer selling bonus from Washington’s Lottery.

Since 2019, this Safeway has sold six big winning tickets of $10,000 or more, including:

  • December 2019 – $50,000 Scratch prize
  • December 2020 - $10,000 Match 4 prize
  • January 2021 - $75,000 Scratch prize
  • January 2022 - $30,000 Scratch prize
  • March 2023 - $50,000 Powerball prize
  • September 2024 - $4.2 million Lotto prize

In the last three months alone (July 2024-September 2024), the retailer also sold three large Mega Millions winning tickets, including one worth $1,500 and two worth $2,000.

“We were completely surprised when we found out that we had sold the winning ticket, and we are beyond excited to know our store played a part in changing someone’s life,” said Melinda Spain, Store Director. “We’re thrilled for our customer who is taking home such a large prize, and we’re already thinking of ways to celebrate.”

Lotto is a Washington state lottery game. The cost per ticket is $1 for two plays. Players pick two sets of six numbers between one and 49. Alternatively, players may use Quick Pick by letting the computer select their numbers. With four winning ball combinations, the more numbers that match those drawn, the more a player will win. Tickets for Lotto are available for purchase at Washington’s Lottery retail locations throughout the state. Players can find Washington’s Lottery retail locations here.

Of this, $139.1 million helped fund the Washington College Grant, a financial aid program that supported more than 29,000 college students and apprentices across the state last year. Another $2.5 million helped fund the College Bound program to help eligible students attain a college or training degree or credential.
